PORT ANGELES — The interior of the Clallam County Veterans Centers will be upgraded after the annual Veterans Day ceremonies Nov. 11, county officials said.
The center at 216 S. Francis St. in Port Angeles will get a new floor covering, kitchen cabinets, appliances and a fresh coat of paint, said Joel Winborn, county parks, fair and facilities manager.
‘Spruce up’
“It’s going to be great for the vets,” he said in a Tuesday interview.
“This will really clean up and spruce up that place.”
County commissioners opened four bids from local contractors in a Tuesday board meeting.
Aldergrove Construction of Port Angeles submitted a low bid of $112,314.
Other bids from Feeley Construction, Primo Construction and Hoch Construction were all below Winborn’s $160,000 estimate.
The three commissioners referred the bids to the parks, fair and facilities department for an analysis and recommendation back to the board.
Contract to be awarded
A contract could be awarded as soon as Tuesday.
The interior face-lift will “probably take a couple of months” to complete, Winborn said.
“I hope to be finished by January so that we can start putting things back together,” he said.
Clallam County Veterans Coordinator Tammy Sullenger has rescheduled meetings from the veterans center to other locations.
“We have a few more things we’re going to do outside of this contract as well,” Winborn said.
The county is working with the city of Port Angeles on an energy-efficient lighting retrofit project for the veterans center, he said.
The functions of a small annex near the veterans center will be moved into the center itself, he added.
Clallam County has two other capital projects on the horizon: a renovation of the third floor of the historic courthouse and a stormwater improvement project for the main courthouse parking lot, Winborn said.
