Clallam County commissioners will take the next step toward all-mail elections April 9 when they consider a resolution splitting 16 voter precincts.
Split precincts will remain in their present commissioner districts.
Commissioners approved an ordinance in January allowing Auditor Cathleen McKeown to split any Clallam County precinct with more than 200 active registered voters.
If all voting precincts have fewer than 200 voters, state law allows for all-mail balloting.
Clallam County had 77 precincts, three of which — Hoko, Piedmont and Elwha — previously had all-mail elections.
Only 16 of the remaining 74 precincts contained more than 200 voters.
Commissioners are expected to give their stamp of approval during their April 9 meeting.
