Clallam County Sheriff’s Office chain gang busy clearing roadways

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang cleaned 350 pounds of litter from five miles of Blue Mountain Road, 250 pounds of litter from one mile of Dry Creek Road, 150 pounds of litter from 5.3 miles of Edgewood Drive and 250 pounds of litter from 3.2 miles of Elwha River Road during the week of March 18-23.

Notable items found include three needles, a motorhome, a trailer, a gas can, a socket wrench, roofing material, a truck canopy, a television, a tire, a barbecue lid, a bicycle tire, the skid plate from a Toyota pickup, carpeting and treated wood.

Crew members picked up 4,040 pounds of litter from two illegal dumpsites in the Mount Pleasant Pit, 150 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Mount Angeles Road, 370 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on O Street and 3,000 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Ennis Creek Road.

Crew members assisted the road department by brushing and chipping along Hoare, Gehrke, Lower Elwha and Mapleton roads.

Crew members cleaned ditches and culverts along Mount Pleasant, Henry-Boyd, Dietz, Glass, Little Loop, Blue Mountain, Gellor, Mount Angeles, Scribner, Monroe, Baker Farm, Draper, Deer Park, Township Line, Eden Valley, Dan Kelly, Black Diamond, Little River, Joyce-Piedmont, East Beach and Benson roads.

Crew members also cleaned debris from a half round culvert on Old Mill Road.

Crew members spread and raked gravel on a turnout on East Beach Road.

Crew members washed county vehicles and cleaned the wash rack.

So far this year the chain gang has cleaned 47.1 miles of roadway, picked up 3,480 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 59,150 pounds of illegal dumpsite litter and pulled approximately 1,680 Scotch broom plants.
