PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang picked up 6260 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Bear Meadows Road and 5280 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite at the Deer Park Rest Area.
Notable items found include three camping trailers and a motorhome.
Corrections deputies conducted urinalysis testing and shakedowns of R Tank and G Tank at the jail.
Crew members also took down the chain gang booth at the fairgrounds.
Crew members assisted the county Roads Division by brushing and chipping along Mount Angeles Road and Gales Street.
During the week of Aug. 26-30, crew members picked up 7,840 pounds of litter from and illegal dumpsite in Bear Meadows, 6,100 pounds of litter from 13 illegal dumpsites along Morse Creek, 1,240 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Old Olympic Highway, 1,400 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Litter River Road and 500 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Ward Road.
Notable items found include 100 needles, three bicycle frames, 12 bicycle wheels, four propane tanks, eight tents, six tarps, some treated wood, six pallets, two mattresses, four couches, two recliners, some carpet, clothes, wood desks and plastic fencing material.
Crew members also moved furniture out of the county detectives’ office.
Crew members assisted the county Roads Division by clearing small trees from a county right-of-way.
Crew members also trimmed weeds along Cameron Road.
Crew members cleaned the wash rack at the county shop.
During the week of Sept. 2-6, crew members picked up 180 pounds of roadside litter from four miles of West 18th Street.
Crew members also picked up 540 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Palo Alto Road and 960 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Town Road.
Notable items found included a carpet, a chair and two couches.
Crew members assisted the Roads Department by clearing trees from Lower Elwha Dam Trail and removing the debris.
Crew members also repaired a culvert and a ditch at 200 Dan Kelly Road.
Crew members pulled weeds and removed the debris at the Carlsbog pump station.
Crew members also trimmed weeds, spread mulch on flower beds and cleaned the wash rack.
So far this year the chain gang has cleaned 147.25 miles of roadway, picked up 8,050 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 174,590 pounds of illegal dumpsite litter, trimmed 94,358 feet of guardrail, pulled or sprayed approximately 31,580 Scotch broom plants and brushed 9.5 miles of county right-of-way.
For the forest service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned 11.1 miles of forest service roads or trails.
