PORT ANGELES – Clallam County commissioners Tuesday tied off one strand of the legal snarl over a church camp proposed in Carlsborg.
King’s Way Foursquare Gospel Church, however, probably soon will be tangled in another action brought by private citizens Erwin and Diane Jones of Sequim.
The county’s action Tuesday allows the church to build a facility for up to 350 overnight campers and staff on land near the church on Kitchen-Dick Road between Old Olympic Highway and U.S. Highway 101.
The county had taken a similar action early in 2006, but Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Craddock Verser nullified it because commissioners had not approved it at a public meeting.
Last January, commissioners held a public hearing that was attended by about a dozen people, most of whom said the camp would spoil the area’s rural character.
King’s Way Pastor Michael Van Proyen countered that the camp was key to the church’s youth ministry.
