PORT ANGELES — Officials have rolled out a draft report on the city’s proposal to annex residential and commercial lands between the eastern city limits and Morse Creek.
Not surprisingly, the report makes strong arguments for annexation.
But a leading opponent of annexation immediately rejected it, saying the city’s plans would “transform our neighborhood in a very undesirable way” and send taxes soaring.
But the report was hailed by the leader of a homeowners group that supports annexation.
The report states the city’s case for the annexation, its goals for the area and capacity to serve it and addresses what it called “myths” regarding annexation — “subjective opinions driven more by emotion and reaction.”
Those “myths,” according to the report, include the fairness of the election method versus the petition method of annexation, required connection to the city sewer system, rezoning, cost of living, police and farm services and farm animals and pets.
The draft report was released at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
