Clallam: County lists qualifications for treasurer applicants

Applicants for the Clallam County treasurer position to be vacated by Ruth Gerdon must have at least a four-year degree in a financial services field or the equivalent, county commissioners decided Monday.

The equivalent would consist of a two-year degree plus four years of experience in a government accounting or finance position, and certification from a recognized continuing education program for treasurers or public officials, they said.

Other minimum qualifications are three years of experience in a supervisory or management position that directly supervised other employees, and three years of experience in financial services position that included management of funds.

Special requirements for being appointed to the position include Clallam County residency, a valid Washington state driver’s license, successful completion of a comprehensive, in-depth background investigation, and successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.

The position, which would pay $53,079 annually based upon the county’s salary system, will be advertised for three weeks. The new treasurer will start effective Jan. 1, 2005.

One-year appointment

The appointee would hold the position for one year, and would have to run for election in 2005 to retain the seat for the remainder of Gerdon’s term.

A full four-year treasurer term will be elected in fall 2006.
