Clallam County League of Women Voters sets general election forums

The Clallam County League of Women Voters will sponsor four public forums to help voters prepare for the Nov. 7 election.

League of Women Voters candidate forums are free and open to the public.

Questions from audience members are always the centerpiece of these events, league members say.

Candidates for the Port of Port Angeles District 1 commission seat and Clallam County Fire District 2 Position 1 seat will be featured at the first of those forums, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The candidates in contested races are incumbent Colleen McAleer and challenger Michael Cobb, vying for a Port of Port Angeles seat, and incumbent Tom Martin and challenger Patricia Reifenstahl, seeing the Fire District 2 seat.

Sequim will host candidates for the port seat and for Sequim School Board positions at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 W. Cedar St.

Candidates for the school board are Jon Kirshbaum and appointee Brian Kuh for District 2 and Nola Judd and Brandino Gibson for Position 4.

All other candidates on the ballot have been invited to introduce themselves and stay for a brief reception to speak with voters one-on-one.

The Forks Library, 171 S. Forks Ave., will host a third forum at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, with candidates for Forks mayor, Port of Port Angeles and fire district commissioner. Running for Forks mayor are Ken Ayers and Tim Fletcher.

The forums will be followed by a reception for all candidates on the ballot, ending at 5 p.m.

The fourth and final forum will feature Port Angeles City Council candidates, set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Clallam County Courthouse.

Contested races for Port Angeles council positions are Mike French and Jake Oppelt for Position 2, Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin and Artur Wojnowski for Position 3 and Travis Berglund and Kate Dexter for Position 4.

Ballots for the general election will be mailed on Oct. 18 and must be postmarked no later than election day.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote the informed and active participation of citizens in government.
