PORT ANGELES — A compromise to save Clallam County Humane Society’s animal shelter is in the works, the group’s president acknowledged Tuesday.
“We don’t have a deal,” John Miles said following an afternoon meeting with County Administrator Dan Engelbertson.
Miles, however, said he hopes a compromise will be reached when Engelbertson meets with the Humane Society board next Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Port Angeles Library’s Raymond Carver Room.
“When he comes to the meeting, he will be prepared to make a concrete offer,” Miles said.
“He wants to make the pitch to the board, but whether it will fly I don’t know.
He said the county’s offer stands at $20,000 — the total county commissioners discussed Tuesday, but half of what Miles says is needed to keep the animal shelter operating through 2004.
Engelbertson declined to give details of his offer because he is still negotiating with the Humane Society board, he said.
