PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Historical Society will offer everything from crystal to books to furniture in its annual department-store-style sale that begins this coming weekend.
The collectibles department at the old Lincoln School site at the corner of Eighth and C streets in Port Angeles sparkles with crystal and glass, and a collection of Texaco memorabilia has been added to the shelves, said Kathy Monds, executive director.
Books are in abundance, along with jigsaw puzzles, jewelry, clothing, tools, linens, fabrics, crafts, holiday decorations, artwork and furniture. All of the items are displayed in sections like a department store created in what once were classrooms and hallways of the old school.
“We’re packed to the rafters,” Monds said.
“Each department is overflowing with goods — some used, some brand new. There is something for everyone.”
The first weekend of the Clallam County Historical Society’s 22nd annual garage sale is Friday and Saturday, but a members only preview sale is set from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday. Those who choose to do so can become members that afternoon and take advantage of early shopping, Monds said.
Regular sale days will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Prices come down
The following weekend, prices will be slashed. Friday, Sept. 2 will be half-price day and on Saturday, Sept. 3, sale items will cost a buck a bag. Hours for the second weekend will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Entry to the sale is from the parking lot off Ninth Street.
“As always, community members have been generous with their donations, and new merchandise will be placed on the shelves every day of the sale,” Monds said.
More than 30 volunteers have been working on the sale since March, she added.
The sale is the historical society’s biggest annual fundraiser. Proceeds go toward improvements of the 1916 brick schoolhouse, the historical society headquarters.
The historical society is slowly but steadily renovating the old building it purchased in 1991 at a cost of $210,000 and moved into in 1998.
