PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners on Tuesday approved a franchise for the Diamond Point water system in a deal that included collecting $4,200 from its owner.
The negotiated amount represents half the franchise fees that Aquarius Utilities LLC did not pay from 2000 to 2007.
Aquarius owner Gregory Roats two weeks earlier had said he felt an obligation to the county to pay at least some of the delinquent charges.
The payment was a bargaining victory for County Administrator Jim Jones.
“We had zero ability to impose any charges, past due or otherwise,” he told commissioners at their weekly work session on Monday.
The 2008 fee is $1,200.
