Clallam County fiscal specialist nets parking spot

PORT ANGELES — Debi Cook, a fiscal specialist for the Clallam County Department of Community Development, was selected by her peers as Employee of the Quarter, department Director Sheila Roark Miller announced this week.

As a reward, Cook gets to park in a manager’s designated parking spot for the next three months.

“It’s under a light and everything,” Cook said.

Cook was selected by a team of nonmanagement employees called the Secret Parking Lot Award Team, or SPLAT.

“I was really surprised,” Cook said.

“I’ve been working hard, but it’s always nice to be recognized and appreciated.”

Roark Miller initiated the parking spot incentive program after she took office in January 2011.

Cook is the third “Place to Park for Making your Mark” award recipient. Planning manager Steve Gray was the first recipient, and long-range planner Robert Knapp was the second.

Roark Miller said Cook was chosen for her accurate accounting skills, positive attitude, commitment, patience and professionalism.

Cook was hired as a permit technician in 2005 and later transferred to the administrative side of Community Development.

Roark Miller said Cook “has been a valuable asset to the entire department.”

“Known throughout the courthouse for her accuracy, attention to details and professional attitude, Debi is a stellar example of a conscientious public employee,” Roark Miller said.
