PORT ANGELES — Two high school juniors will compete for the Clallam County Fair queen’s crown.
The coronation will be Feb. 8 in the Home Arts Building at the Clallam County Fairgrounds, 1608 W. 16th St.
Hannah McDaniel and Anna Menkal, both of Port Angeles, each will present a prepared speech and answer impromptu questions from a panel of judges at 2 p.m.
Judges will vote to determine who will be crowned queen, with the other crowned as princess. The coronation will take place following the selection.
The public is invited to the free event.
The queen will receive a $500 scholarship and the princess will receive a $400 scholarship.
Scholarships will be presented to the court upon high school graduation.
The royalty court will attend parades, community events as well as the four days of the Clallam County Fair, Aug. 20-23.
The theme for the 2020 fair is “Blue Ribbon Dreams In Boots and Jeans.”
Here are details about the candidates:
•˜Hannah McDaniel, a 16-year-old junior at Port Angeles High School, is the daughter of Chris McDaniel and Katherine Rowland.
Hannah is sponsored by Tender Touches Spa and her platform is the Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
She volunteers at the Jefferson County Fair for Tuff track events and Mud Drags events and has participated in Clallam County 4-H and shown animals at the Clallam County Fair.
Hannah takes business, collision repair and welding classes as part of her high school program.
Her future educational plans are attending Peninsula College to become an accountant.
•˜Anna Menkal, a 16-year-old junior at Port Angeles High School is the daughter of Steve and Valerie Menkal.
Anna is sponsored by the Olympus Group at D.A. Davidson and Brian’s Sporting Goods, her platform is the Food Bank.
Anna loves the outdoors and her hobbies are camping and off-roading with jeeps.
She competes in Skills USA at Port Angeles High School and she is involved in cabinet making in her wood shop classes.
Her future educational plans are attending Peninsula College and later becoming a paramedic/EMT.
