Clallam County officials will begin public discussions tonight on the county’s proposed $75.5 million fiscal 2002 budget.
The preliminary budget shows the county expects to spend $21.5 million on public works and related projects, $18.3 million on law and justice, $16.9 million on internal services, $10 million on administration and finance, $4.5 million on environmental protection and $4.3 million on health and community services.
Although the county is planning to spend $75.5 million, it only expects $74.2 million in revenue next year, the budget shows.
The preliminary budget shows the shortfall is primarily because of reductions in timber revenues, a decline in interest rates and the increasing cost of services.
According to the budget, the county’s timber revenue allocation will decrease by more than $700,000 from fiscal 2001.
