PORT ANGELES — Clallam County has awarded contracts to two Port Angeles construction companies, one for repairs at the county fairgrounds and another for a supply of crushed rock for road maintenance.
Commissioners on Tuesday approved a $154,658 agreement with Aldergrove Construction Inc. for structural improvements to the floral barn at the Clallam County Fairgrounds.
The work will be completed before this year’s county fair, which is set for Aug. 18-21.
“It will be fast-tracked, for sure,” Clallam County Parks, Fair and Facilities Director Joel Winborn said.
Crushed rock supply
Commissioners Mike Chapman and Bill Peach also awarded a $464,738 contract to Bruch & Bruch Construction Inc. to provide an annual supply of crushed rock for road maintenance.
Commissioner Bill Peach was absent from the meeting because he was serving as the timber county representative on the state Board of National Resources in Olympia.
Aldergrove’s offer was the lowest of two bids that commissioners opened in a public meeting April 26.
The asking price was higher than the estimate but was within the facilities budget, Winborn said.
Bruch & Bruch’s offer was just $1,274 lower than a “very competitive” bid from DelHur Industries of Port Angeles, County Engineer Ross Tyler said.
The engineer’s estimate for the crushed rock supply was $429,535.
Bruch & Bruch will provide about 19,000 tons of material for the road department.
The rock will be stockpiled at five pits throughout the county.
