PORT ANGELES — Third-term Clallam County Assessor Linda Owings-Rosenburgh, known for her professionalism and vibrant personality, died Sunday morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle from what investigators say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A 9-1-1 call was received at 1:47 a.m. Sunday from her husband, Jim Rosenburgh, at the couple’s home at 1452 Jamestown Road, northeast of Sequim.
Clallam County Sheriff Joe Martin said Owings-Rosenburgh suffered a single gunshot wound to the temple from an unknown caliber handgun.
Martin said he did not know why Owings-Rosenburgh would shoot herself.
Martin, who was vacationing in Neah Bay, said Owings-Rosenburgh’s husband was in “the immediate area” at the time of the shooting and was cooperative with Sheriff’s Department detectives.
Clallam County Sheriff’s Department detectives who were called to the scene and interviewed her husband did not return calls from the Peninsula Daily News on Sunday.
Martin said there was no reason to suspect foul play in her death and that it is now a coroner’s case.
A Harborview nursing supervisor said Owings-Rosenburgh died at 11:48 a.m. Sunday.
