PORT ANGELES — A project to replace the roof on the Clallam County Fairgrounds’ art barn should be complete before the fair this August.
The three Clallam County commissioners approved an agreement with a contractor at their regular meeting on Tuesday. The $85,758.75 contract with Signature Roof Service LLC of Kent will be paid out of the county’s Real Estate Excise Tax 1 account.
“It’s just an agreement for a long overdue project to replace the roof,” said Rick McFarlen, deputy director of the county’s parks, fair and facilities department. “The proposed roofing system is going to be a snap lock system. So, no exposed fasteners and an all-metal roof.”
Commissioner Mike French asked why the contract was for $85,000 but the project was budgeted for $200,000.
“Is that the amount you were expecting?” he asked.
“Nope, that’s it,” McFarlen said. “And there were some savings with the analysis and the architectural design.”
Commissioner Randy Johnson asked if the project included the dog barn, but McFarlen said it was separate.
“Remind us when we are hoping to have the work accomplished?” Commissioner Mark Ozias asked.
“Hopefully before fair,” McFarlen said.
The 2024 Clallam County Fair runs Aug. 15-18.
”It’s been kinda a long, drawn-out process getting this all set up and through all the bidding and that kind of thing,” McFarlen said.
“So, it’s kinda taken a little longer than I would have hoped. But the contractor is on board and he’s ready to start.”
