Clallam County approves creating opioid abatement council

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners have unanimously approved an interlocal agreement designating the Salish Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization as the Olympic Opioid Abatement Council.

The Salish facility, which is located in Port Orchard, will be responsible for receiving, managing, distributing and administering the funds allocated to the county from the settlement with opioid distributors in State of Washington v. McKesson Corporation, Cardinal Health Inc. and AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation.

The facility will receive all the money for three counties: Clallam County, which will receive $3,800,201; Jefferson County, which will receive $7,661,619 and Kitsap County, which will receive $7,661,619.

In other action, the commissioners on Tuesday approved:

• Proclamations recognizing National Hospice Month in Clallam County and the week of Oct. 23-29 as Pro Bono Law Week.

• A letter to the state’s Congressional delegation urging that the Financial Data Transparency Act of 2022 not be attached to the annual Defense Authorization Act.

• Agreements with Scarsella Brothers Inc. for construction of levee tie-ins and a flood return channel in the Lower Dungeness River Floodplain restoration area and for the removal of Towne Road in the Lower Dungeness River Floodplain restoration area.

• An agreement with John Paul Knox dba KnoxWorks for consultant support to Housing Solutions Committee.

• A budget revision to ensure flood protection work is completed on Lower Dungeness River Project before the flood season begins.

• A proposed vacation of a portion of Hazel Street.

• A resolution recognizing Stephen Hoffman for over 39 years of service to Clallam County.
