PORT ANGELES — Dry Creek and Fairview elementary schools could soon receive high-speed fiber optic service as a result of a vote Monday by Clallam County Public Utility commissioners.
The vote also side-stepped another issue — whether Bill Roberds, a candidate for the PUD board of commissioners in the Nov. 5 election, faced potential conflict of interest concerns.
The three PUD commissioners voted unanimously Monday to lease two dark fibers — unused strands in the fiber-optic network — to the School District for one year, with an option to extend the term.
Utility General Manager Dennis Bickford was given the authority to negotiate the price and terms of the contract with school district officials.
