Clallam commissioners to unseal Old Olympic Highway repaving bids today

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners today will open bids for an estimated $993,723 project to repave two miles of Old Olympic Highway between the Dungeness River bridge and Mariott Avenue northwest of Sequim.

The work will include a hot-mix asphalt overlay, pavement rehabilitation and paint striping.

Federal funds will account for up to $859,723 of the total cost.

County Engineer Ross Tyler has said construction will begin in mid to late October.

Drivers can expect short delays while the roadway is being improved.

No road closures requiring detour routes are planned.

Clallam County has paved and widen other sections of Old Olympic Highway west of the Dungeness River in recent years.

In other Old Olympic Highway news, commissioners today are expected to call for bids on repairs to the arterial’s westernmost section between U.S. Highway 101 and the Siebert Creek bridge.

The state-funded project will provide for pavement repair and a hot mix asphalt overlay on the 1.3-mile section.

No commissioner objected to the notice of invitation for bids in Monday’s work session.

If the notice is approved, bids would be due Sept. 30.
