PORT ANGELES — Clallam County residents will not vote next year on whether to make county elected positions partisan following a Thursday night decision by the county Charter Review Commission.
The proposed amendment failed when freeholders, commissioners on the panel, reached a 6-6 tie vote on the issue.
Freeholder John Miller was absent Thursday and two positions are vacant on the 15-member commission.
Commission members on Thursday did approve an amended proposal to nominate and elect county commissioners from each of three districts beginning in 2005, when no county commission seats will be up for election.
The proposal will be forwarded to county Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Chris Melly for language approval.
Freeholders will vote Aug. 29 on whether to put the item on the 2003 general election ballot.
