The president of Clallam County Humane Society’s board came away encouraged after meeting Wednesday with county Administrator Dan Engelbertson about county funding to help sustain the society’s animal shelter.
John Miles on Wednesday said “it looks good” that an agreement will be struck with county commissioners.
“We agreed not to disclose what we were talking about,” Miles said, adding: “I am very encouraged.”
Miles said Engelbertson was receptive to his suggested funding options.
The commissioners are expected to revisit the Humane Society animal shelter issues at their 9 a.m. Monday work session at the county courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
Miles said he will attend the Monday meeting, and Engelbertson in turn will meet with the Humane Society board at its 11 a.m. meeting Wednesday at Port Angeles Library.
“I think if this goes this well, we will be in pretty good shape through the end of the year,” Miles said of the animal shelter.
He acknowledged that the $20,000 offer from the county was still on the negotiating table along with other funding options.
“We’re talking about different things. It would give us more money and give use enough to operate,” Miles said.
Originally, the society board requested $40,000 in addition to the $50,000 the county budgeted this year for the animal shelter’s operation and maintenance.
