CLALLAM BAY — A suspected shoplifter was subdued by sponge grenades late Friday afternoon, ending an armed standoff between the man and a sheriff’s deputy that lasted more than an hour.
Neither the deputy nor the man was injured in the standoff, which led them west on foot from Clallam Bay along state Highway 112 past Sekiu, Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Don Kelly said.
Waylon Edward Akin, 32, of Neah Bay was arrested and booked into the Clallam County jail on investigation of first-degree assault.
He will have his first court appearance Tuesday in Clallam County Superior Court.
