CLALLAM BAY — Nearly 50 law enforcement officers swarmed Clallam Bay and Sekiu on Thursday, making the first arrests in an ongoing investigation into area drug sales.
They raided two businesses and two residences with search warrants, taking nine people into custody and putting what they hope will be a dent in a severe drug problem in the area.
“I told some of the people out there today, it’s a good day for Clallam Bay and Sekiu,” Clallam County Sheriff Joe Martin said.
“And they agreed.”
The arrests are the first in an undercover operation that started last fall and lasted through April.
Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team agents used an informant to purchase methamphetamine, marijuana and other drugs, Undersheriff Fred DeFrang said.
Investigators targeted 12 people involved in the case and arrested five of them on Thursday, DeFrang said. They are still looking for seven others allegedly involved in the case.
The four other arrests on Thursday were for various outstanding warrants and other violations, DeFrang said.
