PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners awarded a bid for the latest phase of a multi-year effort to address inflow and infiltration that has caused frequent overflows of the Sekiu and Clallam Bay wastewater treatment plants.
Bruch & Bruch Construction, Inc. of Port Angeles was awarded a contract for $1,508,991.73. The project was included in the 2023 budget for the Clallam Bay/Sekiu sewer. Bids were opened Aug. 15.
In September 2020, the first phase in a long-awaited sewer upgrade for the Clallam Bay-Sekiu community began along Sekiu Airport Road.
It was a one-month project to repair and replace a sewer gravity main and side sewers on a 0.3-mile section of Sekiu Airport Road north of state Highway 112 built by Barcott Construction of Chehalis for $416,378.
The work was the first phase in a multi-year effort to address inflow and infiltration that has caused frequent overflows of the Sekiu and Clallam Bay wastewater treatment plants.
Clallam County received state funding in 2019 to begin the Clallam Bay-Sekiu sewer improvements, which had been in the planning stages for years. County staff told commissioners that the Sekiu Airport Road project would have a minimal impact on Sekiu’s sport fishing season.
