CLALLAM BAY — West End residents and visitors will get a second chance at patriotic celebrations this week during the Clallam Bay-Sekiu Fun Days starting today.
The events, which will include what organizer Trish Hutson calls the “best fireworks on the North Olympic Peninsula,” will also include a parade, vendors, art show, auction and a fun run.
“The auction will include all sorts of items from local artists,” Hutson said, “and many, many food items.
“You’d be surprised at what some people will pay for a chocolate cake.”
Rayonier train
The Fun Days started a button series nine years ago to feature a West End historical marker.
This year, the button displays an old Rayonier logging train, Hutson said.
The buttons are $2 apiece and support the Fun Days fireworks.
“The best part about this year is that we expect to have glorious weather,” Hutson said.
Tonight at 6:30 p.m. entertainment will include Na Hula ‘O Wahine ‘Ilikea, a Hawaiian entertainment group of women between 48 and 80 years old.
It was organized about two years ago and is led by Mahina Lazzaro, who relocated to the North Olympic Peninsula from Seattle.

• Throughout the day — Amateur photo contest, Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center. Photos of nature will be accepted in 5-by-7-inch or 8 ½-by-11-inch sizes.
• 10 a.m.-5 p.m. — Messy Palettes Art Show, Sekiu Community Center.
• 6 p.m. — Festival potluck social. Organizer: Bizarre Crafters. Bus Garage.
• 6:30 p.m. — Hula dancers. Organizer: Na Hula ‘O Wahine ‘Ilikea. Bus Garage.
Saturday
• 7 a.m.-10 a.m. — Lions Club pancake breakfast, Lions Club
• Throughout the day — Amateur photo contest, Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center.
• 8:30 a.m. — Poker Ride Race sign-up, Clallam Bay School parking lot.
• Throughout the day — Horses and Petting Zoo. Organizer: Teresa Ibarra. Adjacent to Bus Garage.
• 9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Car Show. Organizer: Wayne Foth. Clallam Bay School parking lot.
• 9 a.m. — Poker Ride Race. Organizer: Dixie Simpson and crew.
• 10 a.m.-6 p.m. — Messy Palettes Art Show, Sekiu Community Center.
• 10 a.m.-2 p.m. — Friends of the Library Local Historic Photo Sale, Clallam Bay Branch Library.
