CLALLAM BAY — A weekend of fun is planned for Clallam Bay/Sekiu in celebration of the area’s heritage and as a belated Independence Day event.
Callam Bay/Sekiu Fun Days, Fun Days began as a “loggers day off,” said organizer Patricia Hutson.
“It was a day for all those hard working loggers to have a play day,” she said.
Now, it’s more of a day for family and community reunions in neighboring Clallam Bay and Seiku.
Hutson estimates that 500 to 1,000 people will attend daily.
“A lot of the people come from all around to see their families, and most people around here have their family reunions during Fun Days,” she said.
“If someone left the area, they usually come back for Fun Days.”
Clallam Bay and Seiku have for years celebrated the Fourth of July late, because of festivities in neighboring communities, Hutson said.
“Because we have it close to the Fourth of July, we always coordinate with Forks and Port Angeles to make sure that our events won’t be on the same weekends.”
