CLALLAM BAY — Kristy Sutton’s “lemon snowflakes” won the Clallam Bay Post Office’s 2002 Great Cookie Bakeoff on Thursday.
The holiday cookies were picked as the best after blind taste judging of a table full of entries and their recipes submitted this week by residents in Clallam Bay, Sekiu, Forks and from as far away as Sequim.
All the cookies were later served to parents and children as they got their pictures taken with Santa Claus as part of the post office’s annual Customer Appreciation Day.
The cookie recipes will be compiled in a book, with proceeds going to the Walk for Life breast cancer research fund, said Clallam Bay Postmaster Linda Dillard.
There were three other winners:
* “Mellowest cookie”: Kifli, Hungarian Christmas cookies, by Carmela Richardson of Clallam Bay.
* “Snappiest cookie”: Molasses sugar cookies by Konnie Brand of Sekiu.
* “Best-looking cookie (and yummy, too)”: Old-fashioned sugar cookies by Elena Friesz of Forks.
