CLALLAM BAY — The Clallam Bay-Sekiu Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday endorsed sending a letter to the state in search of support to save a flood-damaged park on the Clallam Bay shore.
Clallam Bay Community Park, a 30-acre waterfront greenbelt, sustained damage from river flooding and storms last winter, and some residents fear that primary beach access via a bridge at the park will be washed away next winter.
“Very shortly we’re going to have a bridge that goes to nowhere,” chamber member Herb Balch, owner of Herb’s Motel in Sekiu, said Wednesday during a Chamber of Commerce meeting at The Cove restaurant.
The letter asks that the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission take action this summer to prevent the Clallam River from eroding the park’s primary access to the spit.
