Clallam adjusts terms for fair board members

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County has adjusted the terms of several members of the Fair Advisory Board.

The dates and terms of several board members were in conflict with the county code, requiring adjustments to bring them into compliance.

Some were simply renewed.

Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to adjust the terms of board members Robert Clark, Roxi Baxley, William White, Elizabeth Strait, Denise Huff, Laurie Davies, Gena Royal and Ken Billings.

Paul Stumbaugh and Carol Johnson were reappointed to the board to represent agriculture and the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce, respectively.

Emilie Thornton was appointed to represent arts and photography.

Don Edwards was reassigned to an at-large position.

Commissioner Mike Doherty described the fair board as “the backbone of one of the best county fairs in the United States.”

“A lot of these people work year-round,” Doherty said.

“It isn’t just during August. It’s a great group of people. And many, I’d say two-thirds of these, have been with the county fair for a couple decades.”

Commissioner Mike Chapman added: “Since it’s right around the corner, it’s a good time to do this.”

This year’s Clallam County Fair is Aug. 16-19. The theme is “Kiss a Pig, Dance a Jig.”

In other news, Gerald Stiles was appointed to the Clallam County Planning Commission to fill a term ending in December 2013.

Camille Scott was reappointed to the Clallam County Board of Health to an at-large position with a term ending in December 2014.

Commissioners also set an Aug. 7 hearing on the proposed sale of surplus property.
