City councilman here, city administrator there

Port Angeles City Councilman Jack Pittis is serving as Hoquiam’s interim city administrator after initially being hired to find a replacement for the position.

Pittis is earning $63 an hour for a maximum of $6,000, according to the Aberdeen Daily World, and will work 20 to 30 hours a week.

“I’m helping them find a city administrator/public works director, so in the interim I am the person,” he said Wednesday.

Pittis, who retired in 1999 as Port Angeles public works director, said the work won’t interfere with his duties as a city councilman.

“I have three priorities, and that is one of them,” he said.

Hoquiam is the second, he said, and the third is consulting with First Federal Savings and Loan Association on its new branch near The Home Depot in Sequim.

Three-hour drive

Pittis said he spends Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in Hoquiam, a three-hour drive from Port Angeles.

Pittis, 58, served as interim city manager for Port Angeles and for Sequim while those cities sought full-time managers.

He now is a part-time engineering and management consultant. He has lived in Port Angeles since 1980 and has served on the City Council since 2003.

Hoquiam hired him through the Seattle-based executive placement firm Waldron Resources in February to conduct the search.

Hoquiam will accept applications for city administrator until April 8. The city hopes to hire a permanent replacement in June.
