PORT ANGELES — “We pledge to this community — as one body — to immediately and radically alter the current situation and state of affairs.”
The seven members of the Port Angeles City Council made that promise in a 435-word statement issued during a special council meeting Tuesday called in the wake of a “untenable, hostile work environment” that City Manager Mark Madsen said caused him to resign on July 9.
The council members will now work to find a new city manager — “and build a better system of [City Council] accountability.”
The council’s mea culpa during its 24-minute special session didn’t seem to satisfy many of the 70 persons in the audience.
Who on the council had acted inappropriately?
What actually happened?
What about Madsen’s severance package, which will amount to more than $37,000?
There were no specific answers in the joint statement.
