PORT ANGELES — Members of the public can tour the Clallam County jail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The half-hour walks will include presentations on the first two phases of a jail remodeling and expansion that is scheduled to start in May and continue for the next nine to 12 months.
The facility is at 223 E. Fourth St.
Jail Superintendent Ron Sukert said the construction will add 24 beds to the facility.
It was designed to hold 96 inmates but has been crowded on occasion by more than 140.
Sukert said people who take the tour must have photo ID and should bring no valuables into the jail.
They also cannot carry weapons, cameras or cell phones.
Persons under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
A historical flier about the 26-year-old jail will be available, as well as a sample menu.
Coffee, cake, cookies and punch will be served at a reception.
