PORT ANGELES — There’s one common thread in the different school-closure options sitting before the Port Angeles School Board.
Every option includes returning the newly accredited Choice Community School, 924 W. Ninth St., to the Port Angeles High School campus, 304 E. Park Ave.
But the principal of the alternative high school thinks that would be a step backward.
“We’re not a program any more. We are our own high school,” Choice Principal Cindy Crumb said.
“To remain our own high school, I don’t believe you could put us on the same campus as the Port Angeles High School.”
Crumb said many of the students’ “knee-jerk reaction” to the news of the move on Tuesday was that they would rather drop out than go back to the larger high school campus.
No action would be taken until the 2008-09 year.
All six options presented to the board Monday night have two phases, the first taking place in the 2007-08 school year.
“I’m very, very happy and thankful it’s not on the first year,” Crumb said.
“We have some time where maybe the other schools don’t.”
