CHIMACUM — Chimacum Middle School will have an additional $400 per student to spend over the next three years, thanks to a grant announced Thursday by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The grant — approximately $136,000 — will be used to improve teaching methods and learning results through enhanced access to technology.
The grant differs from other grants from the Gates Foundation — which bears the name of the Microsoft chairman and his wife — that provide money to purchase computers and software, said Chimacum Middle School Principal David Leinweber.
“It’s a school reform grant, not a technology grant,” he said. “They are big proponents of the use of technology as part of teaching, but it’s really about school reform.”
