CHIMACUM — Voters in Jefferson County Fire District No. 1 (Chimacum) were rejecting a 50-cent property tax increase Tuesday night.
The levy — which would help cover rising operating costs in the district — had received only 47.3 percent voter approval as of 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Jefferson County elections officials still had 3,713 absentee ballots, place late arriving ballots from polls to be tabulated. More absentee ballots are expected to arrive this week and will be counted Friday.
