Chimacum Farmers Market opens Sunday

Special events planned for first day of season

CHIMACUM — The Chimacum Farmers Market will begin its 15th anniversary season on Sunday with more than 30 vendors selling farm goods, artisan food and art.

An official twine-cutting ceremony and group photo will kick off the season at 10 p.m. Sunday at the Chimacum Corner Farmstand, 9122 Rhody Drive.

Live music and children’s activities are planned throughout the market day, which ends at 2 p.m.

Piglets from Egg and I Pork and the Creaky Knees Farm tractor will be at the market. Jefferson County Farmers Markets (JCFM) will film a 15th-anniversary promotional video at the market.

Founded by the Chimacum Grange in 2008, the Chimacum market was adopted by the nonprofit JCFM in 2010, moving it to its current location at Chimacum Corner.

A community source for farm-direct and artisan foods and locally-made arts, the market is nestled next to agricultural land within walking distance of Red Dog and Creaky Knees farms, according to Amanda Milholland, JCFM executive director.

Vendors will offer a wide variety of seasonal produce, food, and handcrafted arts on Sundays through October.

A total of 14 new vendors join the market for the 2023 season: One Root Tree Farm, Strait Up Shrooms, The Lavender Connection, Woodbridge Farm, Sasquatch Botanicals, Sol Smoothies, Viking Ice Cream, Wild Crow Pie Co., CAPstudioBoutique, Eaglemount Artworks, Joyful Pendulums and Ironbearmarine, Port Townsend Glassworks, Whylom – Candle Makers, Woodland Metalsmith.

Returning vendors include Red Dog Farm, Three Strands Handwoven and Gypsy Coffeehouse among others.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/EBT) cards are welcome. The Port Townsend and Chimacum farmers markets offer a dollar-for-dollar SNAP Market Match, doubling the buying power of shoppers who qualify for SNAP.

Visit the market information booth to participate in the SNAP Market Match program, as well as to learn more about the JCFM WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Assistance Match and VegRx.
