EAGLEMOUNT — A stopped school bus carrying five Mountain View Elementary School students was struck from the rear by a car Monday afternoon on state Highway 20.
No one was injured in the collision in which the bus was stopped on the highway north of Madrona Beach Road, but the bus driver and students were visibly shaken.
Shanna Lewis, 20, of Port Townsend told Washington State Patrol troopers that she experienced some vision problems stemming from medication she takes, trooper Joe Leibrecht said.
The late-model Chevrolet that Lewis was driving struck the left rear area of the bus.
“I’m going to advise the Department of Licensing that [Lewis] be re-evaluated for her license,” Leibrecht said.
He said he will not be recommending charges, but he will check with Jefferson County Mental Health to verify that Lewis, who was reportedly uninjured, should have been taking the medication.
The type of medication wasn’t revealed by the State Patrol.
Traffic blocked
The crash happened about 4:15 p.m. about 3½ miles north of U.S. Highway 101 and stopped traffic on Highway 20 for nearly an hour.
Many motorists north of the crash turned around and headed back toward Port Townsend.
