FORKS — The veteran high school cheerleading coach says she will openly discuss problems she says she’s had with embattled Forks High School Principal Steve Quick with the Quillayute Valley School District board tonight.
The board convenes in public session at 6 p.m. at district headquarters, 411 S. Spartan Ave.
Kathy Johnson — high school cheerleading coach for 11 years and parent of a Forks High student — says she has had difficulty opening lines of communication with Quick.
Quick has spent most of this spring at the center of protests — including two student walkouts — in March and April over what protesters say is an overly harsh leadership style.
In a recent interview, Quick denied that he was an authoritarian administrator and said he is easy to get along with.
Protests subsided in recent weeks
At tonight’s meeting, however, Johnson — a classified employee who says her supervisor recently decided not to support her cheerleading contract renewal for next year — said she will tell the School Board why she feels discouraged with recent events.
“I don’t know any other way to do this,” she said.
“We’ve tried other avenues, but nothing seems to be changing.”
