‘Cheer’ for Sequim by voting online

SEQUIM — The city of Sequim is urging all to cheer for Sequim.

Reader’s Digest magazine is running a campaign called “We Hear You America,” in which thousands of dollars will be given to cities that can gather the highest number of “cheers” or votes online, said Barbara Hanna, city marketing and communications director.

“We might be a small town, but we can show the country that we have a big voice and a lot of enthusiasm,” Hanna said.

The top prize is $45,000, second prize is $20,000, and the four runners-up prizes, which are based on the size of the city, are each $10,000.

Winnings can be used for civic works, to promote tourism or to generate job growth and economic development, Hanna said.

In addition to the award, Reader’s Digest will feature cities and towns across America with stories in their magazine and on their website focusing on how individuals, leaders and communities are facing the nation’s unique challenges.

To participate, visit www.readersdigest.com, click on “Sweepstakes” and “We Hear You America.” Enter in the Sequim ZIP code of 98382.

Participants can vote up to 10 times per day.

The contest runs through Feb. 7.
