PORT ANGELES – Signs directing people to the Victoria ferries and parking areas will be up in about a week, city officials told about 20 people Wednesday morning at the latest Port Angeles International Gateway Transportation Center project update.
Additional parallel parking spaces also will be striped along Front Street between Cherry and Oak streets once the new angled parked spaces along Cherry Street are finished, they said.
“This is turning into a regular monthly meeting,” City Public Works Director Glenn Cutler told the audience, noting a similar project update last month.
Construction has begun on the $13.8 million Gateway Center, which is intended to provide a more attractive entrance to the city’s downtown.
It is in an area roughly bounded by Front Street and Railroad Avenue at Lincoln Street.
It will include a transit building with a public plaza and bus lane plus a two-tiered parking garage, clock tower and pavilion roof covering the plaza.
Cutler said the contractor is doing setup and layout for the project now, with other parts to follow.
