Chamber of Jefferson County aims to bring back its Young Professionals group

Members sought for task force that will help relaunch vision

PORT TOWNSEND — The Chamber of Jefferson County intends to reboot the Young Professionals group and is seeking people to serve on a task force.

Three Jefferson County Young Professionals Task Force is a priority for 2023, said Arlene Alen, chamber executive director.

Once formed, it will meet at the chamber office at 2409 Jefferson St. in Port Townsend to create the vision for the 2023 relaunch of the once-popular group.

It is not necessary to be a member of the chamber to serve on the committee or to be a part of the group going forward, she said.

The group had been terminated several years ago, Alen said, and had its first resumption meeting of 12 people at the end of February 2020, just as the first U.S. deaths from COVID-19 were announced in Kirkland.

“Ninety percent of the people didn’t come and a week later the universe shut down,” Alen said Friday.

“Now seems to be a good time to get a task force together and get it relaunched,” she added.

The demographics of the community have shifted, Alen said.

“More and more young professionals are coming into this community,” she said.

“There is a real appetite to have young professionals get together.”

The chamber is seeking a true cross-section of young professionals in the community, Alen said, from agriculture to maritime arts to fine arts.

“I am relatively certain that within a year, we will have hundreds participating,” she said.

Those interested are asked to email admin@jeffcountychamber.org to reserve a spot for their initial meeting or to get more information.

A poll will be sent out on the doodle app to interested young professionals to determine the date and time for this first meeting.
