PORT ANGELES — Mike Chapman was re-elected chairman of the Board of Clallam County Commissioners on Tuesday.
“I would be honored,” said Chapman, after being nominated by Commissioner Jim McEntire, who was elected vice chairman.
McEntire’s motion was seconded by Commissioner Mike Doherty, who had served as chairman before Chapman took the gavel last January.
Commissioners have a longstanding tradition to elect a chair and vice chair as their first order of business every year.
Chapman, a Port Angeles independent who was first elected to the board in 2000, represents the central third of the county.
Doherty, a Port Angeles Democrat who served as a commissioner in the late 1970s and was re-elected in 1998, represents the farthest western district in the county.
McEntire, a Sequim Republican who was elected as county commissioner in 2011, represents the eastern third of the county.
The board meets in a public work session every Monday and conducts its formal business every Tuesday.
