PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang picked up 200 pounds of roadside litter from 5 miles of Little River Road, 200 pounds of roadside litter from 6.2 miles of Mount Angeles Road, 200 pounds of roadside litter from 8 miles of Deer Park Road, 200 pounds of roadside litter from 6.6 miles of O’Brien Road, 200 pounds of roadside litter from 2 miles of 18th St. Dump Road, 200 pounds of roadside litter from 8 miles of Diamond Point Road and 200 pounds of roadside litter from 6.4 miles of East Sequim Bay Road during the week of Dec. 2-6.
Notable items found along the roadways include three coolers, six car tires and a bicycle.
Crew members cleaned up 800 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Little River Road.
Crew members assisted the Forest Service by removing downed trees and debris from the Klahowa campground and from Forest Service roads 2918 and 2878.
During the week of Dec. 9-13 crew members picked up 300 pounds of roadside litter from 2 miles of Fish Hatchery Road, 140 pounds of roadside litter from 4.4 miles of Palo Alto Road, 100 pounds of roadside litter from 3 miles of Louella Road, 240 pounds of roadside litter from 3 miles of Elwha River Road, 300 pounds of roadside litter from 12 miles of Joyce-Piedmont Road, 100 pounds of roadside litter from 1 mile of north Brook Street, 100 pounds of roadside litter from 1 mile of Lee’s Creek Road and 220 pounds of roadside litter from 6 miles of Mount Pleasant Road.
Notable items found include six tires, three tents, two tarps, four bicycle frames, 30 bicycle tires, two pallets, clothing, a propane tank, a machete, a knife, canned food, a foam bed, blankets and carpeting.
Crew members also picked up 1,220 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite along Tumwater Street, 80 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite along Fish Hatchery Road, 40 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite at the county pit, 300 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite along the Tumwater Truck Route, 1,060 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on the Eighth Street Bridge, 1,040 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite along Joyce-Piedmont Road and 100 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite along Camp Hayden Road.
Crew members assisted the county Roads Division by cleaning culverts and ditches along Dry Creek, Mount Angeles, Black Diamond, Little River, Scrivner and Crescent Beach roads.
Crew members straightened the culvert on Crescent Beach.
Crew members also planted grass seed and covered it with straw along Dry Creek Road.
So far this year, the chain gang has cleaned 469.05 miles of roadway, picked up 23,380 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 199,360 pounds of illegal dumpsite litter, recycled 320 pounds of aluminum, trimmed 94,358 feet of guardrail, pulled or sprayed approximately 31,580 Scotch broom plants and brushed 12.5 miles of county right-of-way.
For the Forest Service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned 11.1 miles of forest service roads or trails.
