Chain gang busy around Clallam County roads

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang picked up 100 pounds of roadside litter from 3 miles of Whiskey Creek Road, 80 pounds of roadside litter from 2 miles of Wye Road, 200 pounds of roadside litter from 2 miles of Crescent Beach Road and 500 pounds of roadside litter from 3 miles of state Highway 112 betweeen U.S. Highway 101 and the Elwha River bridge during the week of Jan. 27-31.

Crew members also picked up 4,920 pounds of litter from illegal homeless encampments in the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Morse Creek Unit, 1,180 pounds of litter from illegal dumpsites along Elwha River Road, 60 pounds of litter from 1 acre of the Elwha Interpretive Center rest stop and 580 pounds of litter from the county shop pit in Sequim.

Crew members assisted the county Roads Division by removing hazard trees and cleaning up storm debris on South Shore, Little River and West Bluff roads.

So far this year, the chain gang has cleaned 73.8 miles of roadway, picked up 3,225 pounds of roadside litter and picked up 7,845 pounds of illegal dumpsite litter.
