Celebration of life Sunday for Port Townsend man killed in wreck

PORT TOWNSEND — A celebration of life is planned at 1 p.m. Sunday for Gregory Bolling, who died last week of injuries sustained in a Jan. 17 pickup truck wreck.

The service will be at the Port Townsend Yacht Club, 2503 Washington St.

A second service is planned for 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at New Life Assembly of God, 1636 Hastings Ave.

Bolling, 23, was a passenger in a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Taylour J. Eldridge, 25, of Port Townsend when the eastbound truck failed to negotiate a curve on state Highway 20 near Eaglemount Road, went over an embankment, crashed into a tree and rolled near Discovery Bay, the State Patrol said.

The State Patrol announced Tuesday that Bolling, who had been airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, had died.

The State Patrol said speed was the cause of the single-vehicle wreck and that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman, said Eldridge could face a vehicular homicide charge if the State Patrol decides to seek it.

Troopers are investigating the wreck. The investigation could take several weeks, Winger said.

Eldridge has not been arrested and is not under guard at Harborview, where he was listed in satisfactory condition last week.

A second passenger in the car — Amelia R. Syska-Patten, 20, of Port Townsend — also was airlifted to Harborview. She has been treated and discharged.

Bolling, a 2009 Chimacum High School graduate who was listed on the Peninsula College honor roll for the 2014 spring and winter quarters, was born May 24, 1991, in Alaska to Michelle West, who now who owns and operates Evergreen Fitness Center in Port Townsend, and Doug Bolling of Port Hadlock.

The family, which also included an older brother, Brian, moved to Washington state when Bolling was 1 year old.

West said Bolling was on hiatus from a seasonal job working in an Alaskan fish processing plant at the time of his death.

Bolling, an organ donor, will be cremated, West said.

Bolling was involved in cat rescue, so West has requested that those who choose to do so make donations in his name to the Jefferson County Humane Society (www.hsjcwa.org) or Center Valley Animal Rescue in Quilcene (www.centervalleyanimalrescue.org).

The family also has established a scholarship fund that will benefit a deserving Chimacum High student.

Donations can be made to the Gregory Bolling Memorial Scholarship Fund and mailed to Evergreen Fitness, 22 Tahlequah Lane, Port Townsend, WA 98368.
