PORT ANGELES — Cedar Park Drive, a residential Clallam County road east of Port Angeles, will close for up to 45 days beginning Monday for construction of the Deer Park underpass.
County commissioners Tuesday approved a resolution that says the road will reopen no later than Nov. 18.
The closure, which previously was scheduled to begin Sept. 3, was postponed by five weeks because of construction delays in the $4.8 million undercrossing of U.S. Highway 101, County Engineer Ross Tyler said.
Loop back to highway
During the closure, Cedar Park Drive residents will detour north to Buchanan Drive and loop back to highway.
Cedar Park Drive will be closed near its southern intersection with Buchanan Drive to allow crews from Scarsella Brothers Inc. to dig a large pit on the north side of the highway.
The large pits on both sides of the highway will serve a new county road called Deer Park Loop.
Deer Park Loop will eliminate left turns across the four-lane highway from Deer Park Road and Buchanan Drive.
Go underneath highway
Motorists instead will go underneath the existing highway through a pre-cast, concrete-arch tunnel near the scenic overlook at the top of the Morse Creek hill.
Pedestrians and cyclists will have a 10-foot-wide sidewalk to get from Deer Park Cinema to the Olympic Discovery Trail.
The federally funded underpass is scheduled to be completed by next summer.
Access to C’est Si Bon restaurant will not be affected by the temporary closure of Cedar Park Drive or construction of Deer Park Loop.
