SEQUIM — Commissioners of Clallam County Fire District No. 3 took the first step Tuesday toward a multiuse fire station in Carlsborg when they approved purchasing more than 9 acres next to Greywolf Elementary School.
The commissioners spent $125,000 to buy the property from Dennis/Irwin Boyd and assumed a $6,000 debt for a local improvement district which provides water to the Carlsborg Road area through the Clallam County Public Utility District.
The final purchase is conditioned that the land is suitable for a septic system, that it can be rezoned for public use and that the north property line is straightened.
Fire Chief Steve Vogel said first construction on the property will be a pole building to house the fire district’s maintenance shop. Commissioner Lawrence Kettel said the district is paying $1,300 a month rental for a shop farther north on Carlsborg Road.
“I think this is a good move in planning for the future,” board Chairman Duane Holter said.
