PORT ANGELES — A Panamanian-flagged cargo ship Grand Quest is anchored in Port Angeles Harbor this morning after it lost its steering capability in the Strait of Juan de Fuca shortly after midnight.
There is no threat to the environment or health and safety, the state Department of Ecology and the Coast Guard said in a joint statement.
The 16,702-deadweight-ton ship lost control of its rudder just after 12:15 a.m. about 6 miles off Port Angeles, Ecology said.
A tugboat was called to tow the Grand Quest into the harbor. The blue car carrier is currently anchored off the tip of Ediz Hook.
