JOYCE — The State Patrol is investigating a collision Wednesday that involved a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle.
Troopers said the fully marked Border Patrol SUV, a 2010 Ford Expedition, slowed to make a right turn off state Highway 112 about 13 miles west of Joyce when a 2011 Ford Fiesta driven by Gerald D. Barnes, 53 of Port Angeles struck it from behind.
The collision was reported at 12:37 p.m.
Barnes was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles. The Fiesta was destroyed, according to a State Patrol press memo.
The Border Patrol SUV, driven by agent Kurt R. Dannewitz, 40, was driven from the scene. Dannewitz was reportedly unhurt.
Troopers said no drugs or alcohol were involved, and both drivers had their seat restraints fastened.
